Mykolaiv Travel. What do you think of when you hear this phrase? Not much, probably because Mykolaiv is not as touristic city as other top destinations, such as Rome, Amsterdam, or San Francisco. It is not much popular among Ukrainians because of different reasons. I also thought so for long time until I started hosting people via Couchsurfing who would come to Mykolaiv to explore it and I would show them our city. I was surprised to hear from them something like:
Your city is very cosy. It has wide streets, many authentic buildings with beautiful columns. It is very green, even though it is industrial.
I couldn’t fully accept my guests’ opinion until I started looking at my home city as if I were a tourist. And you know what, I started noticing those nice things they were talking about. After I returned from my latest and longest trip, I started noticing many advantages in Mykolaiv comparing it with other places I have visited. If you would like to know why, we could meet up and discuss it. For now, I will just say the following:
Mykolaiv is beautiful. As well as our region (oblast). It has many sights to visit and interesting history behind them. Certainly, it has a number of problems as any other city does. However, Mykolaiv can be even more beautiful if we make it so. As any place in the world could be if you take care of it.

p.s. Because of the russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Mykolaiv became one of the frontline cities holding back the occupants. Now it is not a safe location for civilians, however, if you are a journalist or a filmmaker and want to collect evidence of crimes russian army is committing, you will need help of a fixer in Mykolaiv.
